Cannon Rock, JerryC – Played by funtwo Popularised by Rudetube

So I was watching Rudetube this weekend and of course one of Youtubes most popular Videos is funtwo and his fantastic rendition of JerryC’s Canon Rock.

The piece of composed on a single guitar, and it certainly is quick, but it’s not unplayable, and should you pull it off you have got blagging rights forever.

Landing in London – 3 Doors down

“Landing in London” is the fifth and final single from the album Seventeen Days by American rock band 3 Doors Down.

The song is about how much someone is missed when that person is gone; in this case, the man is far away in London, while the woman is in a U.S. City.

In this power ballad lead singer Brad Arnold duets with the legendary Bob Seger, who happened to be recording at the same studio as 3 Doors Down in 2004, working on his album Face the Promise.

Asked by the band’s manager if he would like to sing on the song, Seger agreed,. Previously he had only collaborated four times with other singers and stated that he had hated it every single time, which made it even more appealing to 3DD.

According to bass player Todd Harrell, Bob Seger felt different about this song, perhaps because it is reminiscent of one of Seger’s own classic compositions, 1973′s “Turn the Page”.

It’s a great tune and I love it. The entire album is one of the greats even if 3DD never have really made it over here in the UK.

Eric Clapton – Layla (Live “One More Rider One More Car”)

You don’t need me to tell you that Layla is one of the most loved Electric guitar tracks ever. There are hundreds of versions and performances though, so how do you know which one to listen to?

Well as a self-confessed Clapton fan I’ve done the legwork for you and have probably listened to them all.

I can assure you that this version, from One More Rider One More Car is right up there, with a screaming solo I never, ever get tired of.

We Weren’t Born To Follow – Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi are back in 2009 with a new album, The Circle (Which admittedly is the saem name as Creed’s new album released in the same month).

The new track is classic Bon Jovi rock with cool guitar riffs courtesy of Richie Sambora and the album being produced by John Shanks. It’s due out November 10th however it’s sure to leak far earlier so expect plenty of airplay and videos to be hitting youtube and the like very soon.

The music video for the song was released on October 14, 2009. It features the band performing on the roof of a New York apartment building, with skyscrapers visible. Entwined with these scenes are archive clips and pictures of important events and people in history.

Dream On – Yngwie Malmsteen & Ronnie James Dio

What happens when you put 1980′s legend Yngwie Malmsteen and guitar hero Ronnie James Dio together for a power ballad of epic proportions? Dream On, that’s what.

A tune which had earlier been made famous by rockers Aerosmith features some extremely fast sweep picking and some awesome solo’s with a truely memorable melody that just gets jammed in your brain. One of the few guitar power ballad tracks to make the transition to Rap Hip-Hop culture when it was sampled for Eminem’s “Sing for the Moment”.

Creep – Radiohead

“Creep” is a song by the English rock band Radiohead

The song was written by vocalist Thom Yorke and was released as their debut single in 1992, it later appeared on their first album, Pablo Honey in1993.

During its initial release, “Creep” was not a chart success. However, upon re-release in 1993, it became a worldwide hit. The band began to dislike the song, as fans attended their early gigs primarily for the performance of “Creep” and they saw it as being overplayed.

During the mid-to-late 1990s, “Creep” was played less frequently at gigs and in 1998, the band dropped the song from setlists altogether where it wasn’t played live again until 2001. In 2009, during the Spring tour of South America and Mexico, the song was played at almost every gig and opened their set in the 2009 Reading Festival.

Where would a guitar website be without some Hendrix?

All along the Watchtower is essential Hendrix and just screams out 1970′s.

This video is live from the most Rock and Roll of places, the Isle of White. It’s excellent and if you have just began playing the guitar, and especially if you own a Fender Stratocaster, you need to sit down with something which will make you feel wired (whatever is your poison), and appreciate where it all changed.
